Crabby said that using dechlorinated water wasn't necessary, just when their drinking since it gives them their nutrients. She/they/he said that I could use RO water for the subKyMart wrote: Tip: If have a crab tunneling / down molting and your substrate is too dry, it is important to make sure that is is sand castle constancy! If you are worried about it, you can gently put some dechlorinated water around the sides of the tank (into the substrate), it will soak inwards and mosten the substrate making it closer to sand castle constancy! Do it slowly so you don't flood the tank. To check for flooding, take something and gently push it all the way to the bottom of the tank (in a corner so you don't hot a crab, preferably something small), and if you don't see water pooling at the bottom, ur good to go!

You can, sorry I just use primed water so I'm used to saying it that way! RO is fine for wetting sub! What I said still works of you used RO water instead of dechlorinated water!sunflower_crabitat wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 2:42 pmCrabby said that using dechlorinated water wasn't necessary, just when their drinking since it gives them their nutrients. Do you have extra turbo shells in the tank for ur crabs? PPs prefer turbo shells! And if you do, do you have variety of sizes?

Amazing, thank you so so much! (i keep forgetting that you don't use RO water since you have so much dechlorinated water/primed water lol!KyMart wrote: You can, sorry I just use primed water so I'm used to saying it that way! Currently looking to get some, it's on the list, I have a couple shells in there for now, but when K can I'm gonna get some turbo shells.KyMart wrote:Do you have extra turbo shells in the tank for ur crabs? PPs prefer turbo shells! And if you do, do you have variety of sizes?

Re: saltwater and freshwater mix?
I personally went to Hobby Lobby and bought 2 packs of turbo "craft" shells, washed them and I was good to go! I spent $10 on both of the packs and got 21 turbo shells in a variety of sizes! 19 of them + 2 other shells I got in a deco pack that they could move into if wanted are currently in my 10 gallon, and my bigger crab, Frog moved into a natrual shell as soon as I gave him the option! My smaller crab, Bug tunneled down to molt yesterday (fingers crossed that she is molting), I have had her for about a month and a half this is her first time down! She is still in the painted shell she came in and there are many shells in the tank her size and the same weight as the one she is in now, I have caught her checking a few out recently! I think once she comes up she might move shells, but I can't force her, and she will when the time is right!sunflower_crabitat wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 2:47 pmCurrently looking to get some, it's on the list, I have a couple shells in there for now, but when K can I'm gonna get some turbo shells.

I get my shells at Hobby Lobby too. I usually pay $5-6 for a pack of 12. Then I sand all the edges down with my Dremel tool and sell them on my Etsy shop for cheap. Some of the edges can be pretty jagged since they are technically for crafts. If you don't have a Dremel, you can use a sheet of sand paper and sand the edges down by hand. That's what I used to do, but my hand was getting too tired to do that with dozens of shells lol!sunflower_crabitat wrote: Oh wow! And that was only 10$ for that whole pack?!

It was $5 per pack, but I got two and got that many shells total! So yes, I paid $10 for 21 shells!sunflower_crabitat wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 3:11 pmOh wow! And that was only 10$ for that whole pack?!

Hahah! I assume it would be tiring after doing that to so many shells!CrabbyLover77 wrote:I get my shells at Hobby Lobby too. I usually pay $5-6 for a pack of 12. Oh wow! That's amazing! I'll probably just start with one pack, but in the future I might get more!KyMart wrote: It was $5 per pack, but I got two and got that many shells total! So yes, I paid $10 for 21 shells!
