These boys were inseparable at the store too. I’ll likely be adding another one at some point.

Currently working on funding for crabitat 3.0. I’m finding that a 10 gallon tank just isn’t big enough for what I want to do.

I’d love to have one of those front opening terrariums as I feel I’ll have easier access and more creative room inside.

I made another change today once I found one of my lagoons was leaking. Out went the lagoons from Flukers and in went a couple small food storage containers. These are deep enough for the boys to fully submerge and don’t leak.

The Flukers lagoons were great for the price, but their durability leaves some questions, especially the stepped lagoon. The walls on it are very thin and crack easily.

The square corner lagoon has thick sidewalls, but not deep enough for my boys to submerge.

I have an air pump and bubble stone arriving today as well. No more misting this tank to keep humidity up despite having the mesh lid sealed with wax paper (held up with magnets on the underside). I ran out of Saran Wrap, oops.

One of our furry children likes to sit on top (she’s not supposed to) and her claws poke holes in the plastic/paper through the mesh lid.

I’ll be purchasing some thin plexiglass to secure on top of the lid (it will be cut to fit around the heat lamp dome) then sealed with double stick foam gasket tape. That should eliminate the issue of kitty claws poking holes and give us more environmental stability.

The boys are snuggling in the barrels. They will ZOOM out for honey if I put it on their dinner plate.

Mr. Crabs is doing his best to climb everything he can. He is very social and comes out to say hi at various times throughout the day. He’s been known to tap his shell against the glass to get our attention.

Squidward is skiddish and likes to hide except for when the house is very quiet. If we’re making too much noise though, he’ll pop out and shake his antennae at us. “You noisy kids! Knock off that racket!”

I made one big change today.

Using my kids old fishbowl as the freshwater pond. It’s covered, yet open. It’ll keep the water from flooding the sub, but still hydrate the air in the tank.

Hopefully this and the new bubble stone will help increase the humidity in the crabitat.

They can definitely submerge in both pools now. Plus the humidity boost without having to repeatedly mist the tank each day will be nice.

So far it’s working. Stable ~76% RH. Versus the 45-60% it was between mistings. I’ll find out more in the morning as that will be about the twelve hour mark with the bubbler installed.
