Newbie Crabber!

Post by Cate1129 » Mon Nov 24, 2014 11:10 pm

I have 2 small crabs that my mom bought for my 3 year old...so mamma is caring for the crabbies! Anyway I have had them for about a month. I am just now beginning to get my crabitat right! I had no idea that there was so much to learn. However through all the work I have found that these little guys are super fascinating!

I ended up addicted like that, except at the opposite end of the chain. My grandparents got me two crabs (in fourth grade) and I researched like crazy after (they sadly didn't make it), and now here I am (in 6th, 2 1/2 years later), addicted with three crabs in a 16 gallon, thinking of adding crabs, and trying to come up with creative ways to earn money to fuel the hobby as a kid. I have settled on dog walking and will be doing it through the freezing winter:). The things I do for those crabs...:)! So anyways, good luck!

It's honestly shocking how intelligent they are, much less how much of a bond they can form with the right care. I've heard some amazing stories on this board from crabs coming when 'called' to crabs that honestly enjoy cuddling
And my big guy is no exception! Just be sure to keep your crab time with the child supervised!

I have 1 that I think has been dropped on his head. Seriously lol megmaholm and I have deemed him a window licker. The rest are relatively smart from what I can tell. It is only my favorite one that seems to be special. He's very sweet though.
#1 rule of crabbing - crabs are weird.
#2 rule of crabbing - see above
