Hello Everyone!! I'm Tracey and I adopted (sounds better than bought) 2 Hermies while on vacation in Virginia Beach. I got them on Friday, May 22nd. I did a little reading before getting them to make sure I knew what I was getting into. Have to admit, the idea started as it was something I did every year when I was little. It has been more than 20 years since I had crabs though, so knowledge and the easy availability of it has changed a ton!! I can remember my Grandfather and I setting up what we thought was a great home, but with all that's known now, it would be horrible conditions.
I'm slowing getting my crabitat set up and my guys are doing good. They are buried a lot, but it seems to be fun and destressing as they come up around once a day or so. When they are active they are crazy climbers.
I originally wanted a duo name, but then didn't know their sex. I am pretty sure they are both boys. Well, last night, their names came to me. The size difference in the crabs isn't big, but their shell size is, as it seems one is preferring a smaller shell at the moment. So, my "big guy" is going to be named Nept and the "little guy" will be Norge. This is after the King Neptune and the Norwegian Lady statues...my 2 fave things on the boardwalk.
I read your posts like crazy to learn everything I can and this forum has been super helpful. I saved the Food list to my phone so I can access it quickly in the store. I'm also on the Facebook page.
Nice to meet everyone!!
