Hi everybody-
I'm taking my yearly vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama and since I had room in my new 40 gal I decided to rescue a few crabs from one of the many many souvenir stores. I ended up getting five crabs (much more than I originally planned on getting). Incredibly, all five crabs are mite-free and have all of their limbs as far as I can tell. I'll get pictures posted as soon as I get them home and settled into the big tank. Not positive on sizes but I think I have a large, a med-large, and medium, and two smalls.
I was amazed that as soon as I got them into the critter keeper I brought for them (with EE and extra shells Inside) most of them immediately changed out of their horrible painted shells. When we got back to the beach house, three dug under.
The best part of the trip, however, was the cashier. She commented on how I brought my own very large critter keeper and the amount of substrate and shells inside. I explained to her why they are a necessity and she just lit up. She was so happy that someone was buying crabs who actually knew what they were doing. I even showed her pictures of the 40 gal that would be the crabs' new home. She was so excited that she pulled all of the other workers around her to look at my tank. Because of her amazement, she charged me the cheapest amount for all the crabs except the largest and asked me if I had a website she could check out in order to better educate people about crabs. Of course, I gave her this website for her to look over. It was an amazing trip that ended so well. I wish all trips to stores with bad conditions would turn out like this one!

Re: Souvenir Store Rescue
Awesome that she asked for a website on their care!
