New crab owner
Hello! I've had hermit crabs since July and have been lurking these forums for just as long. I have 3 small-medium hermit crabs: Charlotte, Peaches, and Slowbro. And thanks to Petco's $1/gallon sale I just upgraded from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon high tank

Re: New crab owner
Welcome to the HCA! It's always great to add new members to the dark side. hehe. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the new set-up when you have it all ready to go. Congrats on the upgrade btw, that's always something to look forward to!
Re: New crab owner
Thank you guys for the warm welcome! I'll be sure to post pictures once everything is set up. I made the mistake of soaking my moss with fresh water instead of MSW and it grew mold
I threw it all out before work and am going to buy more and replace it tomorrow

Re: New crab owner
This is Peaches, my smallest and most active

And here is Charlotte. In the 3 months I've had her she has changed shells at least 3 times and almost always in shells that look way too big for her

I don't have any pictures of Slowbro yet. He's the same size as Charlotte and looks similar to her, but he is more purple and is missing his BP
after taking him home he went down for a molt within the first couple of weeks

Charlotte may just be planning ahead for a major growth spurt in her next molt

Re: New crab owner
How deep is your sub? Looks like you might want to add a bit more. Though it could totally be perspective, pictures don't always make it easy to visualize size/ depth. Otherwise, the tank it looking great! Climbs and hides and toys oh myy! XD

My sub is about 4 to 5 inches deep. Should I add a bit more? And thank you! I like how my 20G looks a lot more than my old tankRawrgeous wrote:How deep is your sub? Re: New crab owner
The recommended substrate depth is a minimum of 6". The larger your crabs, the deeper the substrate: ideally, 3x the height of the largest crab.Mareece wrote:My sub is about 4 to 5 inches deep. And I added more substrate and pool bubblers! I'm thinking about getting 2 Es since my PPs are almost always in the moss pits and ever seem to dig unless they're molting, but 5 crabs in 20G seems a bit crowded

Re: New crab owner
I definitely plan too! I had to set thier tank up in a rush [they were rescues that came in to my job] so this week coming hopefully ill be able to get a few more things and build on what i have!
Re: New crab owner
That sounds great! That's how my first tank started. It's fun watching them explore when you add in new things
