Saved a life today

Post by kieagcarm » Sat Oct 22, 2016 5:05 pm

Well I went to petco to get Gary some things for his new home, and saw a hermit who has been badly abused, missing two leg joints, cracked big claw, in a painted shell. So I had to bring him home. I added more substrate and got new accessories for the big tank too. Still thinking of a name for the new one, but him and baby biz are chillin together already...ImageI gave Yeti baby biz and new guy all a bath in fw when I put them back in. All is well

Until you get a larger tank and the appropriate substrate, I would not add any more crabs.

They are at risk for aggression and cannibalism.

I just got a 20g tall and have 7 and a half inches of play sand and ee. I am following all the guidelines. I could technically keep up to 5 of these smaller guys in this tank, but only have 3

Are you planning on adding the crab that is in a tank by itself when it comes back up from digging? Just wondering because I know they don't like to be alone

Oh ok. For some reason I thought that you had a 10 gallon or smaller.

Yes, I am going to attempt to, Athena has already killed one crab, Aphrodite, tore her apart. So I'm going to try.

You know, Gary and Athena came from North Carolina, I wonder if they are aggressive crabs for a reason

Hmmm... Hopefully by the time she's back up she'll be calmer from her molt. Plus you said you ordered turbos so I'm thinking that will help out in the case of shell envy. Do you know what the temps are in the new tank?

No, it feels really warm and humid, waiting on the thermal & hygro meters to come with my newest order. Athena is in a super nice turbo, and was when she killed Aphrodite, while Aphrodite was in her painted shell we got her in. She didn't even have time to switch, only had her three days

Look Dixon got out of his awful painted shell, I took it out immediately, he is still trying others on, but look at this poor guy, can't wait till he molts, regrows his lost kind joints and fixes his cracked bcImageImageImage
