i don't think my crab likes the newbie

Post by sushi » Fri Mar 24, 2017 9:07 pm

i bought a new crabbie today, and my older crab sushi doesn't seem to like him; or maybe it's just another thing i don't know about? but basically sushi keeps grabbing percy by the shell and dragging him around. percy then goes into hiding inside his shell, and sushi just waits there for him to come out and does it again. right now it looks like percy is digging, and sushi is just right there behind him watching, basically standing over him. is this just a dominant thing? percy is a lot smaller than sushi so i don't think he wants his shell.. but i really don't want either one of them to die :(

1. Did you dip the new crab into the fresh water of the tank? That needs to be done so that the new crab smells like the tank and not like an intruder.
2. Crabs have a "pecking order". They are going to have to figure out that pecking order. As long as nobody is chirping loud, I think you are okay.
3. Make sure you have plenty of shells (3-5 shells per crab - make sure they are the correct kind of shells that your crabs like, as well as a little larger than what they are currently in). Shell guide: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 24&t=92552

i gave him a little bath with freshwater, but i didn't dip him in the pool or anything. i haven't heard any chirping so that's good news. i will definitely check out that shell guide, thank you!!

sushi backed off for now so i'm relieved :)
