3's better than 2, yes?
3's better than 2, yes?
Went to town to grab dog food and went by the crabs and there was one basically banging on the glass, so I grabbed a clerk and bought him. 3 is a better group than 2. First thing he's (assuming here, haven't checked) done is swap shells, soon as he moves away from it I shall take it out. Wish the other 2 would. I've ordered 35 more, looked like a good selection, so hopefully, they will take one of those because they didn't care for any of the others. Should be here by the end of next week I hope.
I can hear my 75g whispering from the barn.

Bleh, before I could remove the painted shell, my grandsons crab shifted into it. So he changed shells, just into another painted one. I did manage to nab that one, silly things.

Welcome to HCA!!! If you haven't seen them yet, the care sheets are awesome (IMO), and are here: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... m.php?f=51 Let us know if you have any questions, we're here to help!
You say you now have three crabs, I'm sure they're much happier living with you than being at the pet store! However, once there's more than a crab or two, I do tend to wonder if they have enough room. Have you checked out HCA recommendations on crab size and tank sizing? They're here, if you haven't: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... 26&t=92541
If you have three small/medium crabs, I think 5 gallons per crab is the recommendation, so they'll have enough space for molting and such. PPs are somewhat more tolerant of being overcrowded than other species (assuming you have a purple pincher?), but personally, I always worry a bit about cannibalism, and overcrowding can lead down that route eventually, so I thought I'd just mention it. Feeding a diet high in protein and calcium can help prevent cannibalism as well (check out the safe food list and the food pyramid care sheets, if you haven't already).
Again, welcome to HCA, we're happy to have you! Best of luck with your new crabbie!!!
4PPs and tons of FUN in a 29 gallon!

I have them in a 20g. So 3-4 is the limit. Will try and stick to 3, mine, grandsons and my granddaughters, I keep fish, so I understand tank limits. Now, if I could figure out just where to stick my 75g.....

LOL, I already have the 75, and crab substrate is lots lighter than water.
