New Rescue

Someone reached out to me on Craigslist about not wanting their hermit crab anymore. After a fustrating back and forth dialogue, we finally picked up our newest addition!

Meet Lasseter, our big guy! His previous owner had him in a critter keeper with blue hermit crab sand for two years! He was fed a diet of 4 pellets of Hermit Crab food weekly. The previous owner said he doesn't get along with other crabs, saying he ripped their limbs off. I think they dropped their legs from stress and he took advantage of real food, but that's just me. He appears pretty healthy, good color and the signs of a recent molt. I'm hopeful he will make it! I think he's a medium. I will update when I introduce him to the tank and colony.

These pictures are from him still in the car, you can see the blue powder still on him. I think he's a medium PP.

Lasseter is doing great! His current shell opening is just about 1 inch and he is too big! I put him in an ISO with dampened paper towels, last nights food, and two water bowls. He went to the food almost immediately. I was in the kitchen boiling shells for him and I heard my husband yell "he's eating squash!" And I came in and saw that he was chowing down not on squash but chicken! I'm so relieved he's getting some protein in him before I add him to the tank since I have one molter down.

He dug down in Gus' old tunnel last night. I hope to see him sometime in the next millennia.

Thank you! He didn't stay down long. He's back up. I think he heard there's a clamshell full of honey still up for grabs. Haha
