PPS

Post by Jamison » Wed Feb 20, 2019 8:38 pm

I recently got hayride and for about a week he was doing great, but now not so much. He is becoming a victim of pps. Today when I went to change the water I noticed harry nibbling on a leg.I picked up the coco but and there he was missing a leg. He is not coming out of his shell all the way so I wasn't able to get a pic. I have him in an iso tank. I only have about an inch of substrate for now. I am very afraid he will not make it. Any tips or advice to care for him? Oh and can I use miracle grow potting soil until I can go to petsmart for eco earth? I am super scared, any advice would be awesome.

Just make sure the heat and humidity are high enough and offer some high-calorie foods, like honey or peanut butter.

Don’t use the Miracle Gro, it has fertilizers in it (they should be listed on the container).

Once the substrate is deep enough, he may dig. Otherwise, there’s not a whole lot that can be done. PPS is rough.

He is not moving much. I sadly do not think he will make it. I am very sad.

Try not to beat yourself up too much. The transition from wild to captivity and being transported everywhere in between is rough.

Remember not to give up hope until their is a death smell. The transition is rough and we dont know what they went through before they got to us. Either in the wild or during the shipping and harvesting process. Dont let it turn you off to the wprld pf hermit crabs either
