HCA: Hermit Crab Association

hello everyone I’m new here and also a new Crab Mom
i have two small hermmies not sure yet if male or female?
and crabitat is a 10 gallon tank. my question i guess is i’m wanting to upgrade crabitat to terrarium or vivarrium, which set up would be best i plan to add to the family more hermmies once new crabitat is set up

welcome to the team! if you want to know the gender of your crabs, wait for them to come out of their shell far enough to see under their 2nd pair of walking legs. if you see any genopores, which look like small dots, it is a girl. i have 2 boys!

also, the best setup would be at least 6 in of substrate (eco earth or play sand or coco fiber) and at least 10 to 20 gallons. i personally would give them as much space as possible and a couple coco huts and hiding spots. plus lots of climbing toys!

BTW what are your crabs names? mine are acorn and salsa, 2 male PP silver doller size!

thanx is there a particular zoo med terrarium? i’m hoping to find complete kit . is the gecko or rainforest/tropical kits suitable for hermmies?

Welcome! Keep in mind how the door opens and the depth of your substrate. You need minimum 6" or 3x the height of your largest crab, whichever is deeper.
