HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Just came home with my two new hermit crabs! One crab came out of it's shell to investigate as we were leaving the pet store. It is in a shell that is slightly bigger then the shell that my old crab (Hermy) wore. The other crab has not come out of it's shell to investigate yet-it is MUCH smaller then the other one. Need to come up with names. My mom suggested I name them after the 7 dwarfs. Just looked over at my tank now and the larger one is starting to emerge from its shell.

Thanks! I've seen both of them out walking around once. They walk about 4 steps then turn and run back to the hut.. Still working on names for them. Might name the really tiny one bashful. But, still not sure yet.

Bashful is a cute name and it definitely works for a hermit crab. Lol!

Need name for the other one. He’s in a bigger shell then the shell my old crab wore. So hard to name them when all they want to do is hide under that hut.

Neither have made their way over to the food bowl yet: pellets (I know they aren’t good but it’s what they are use to eating), fruit mix, mealworms, calcium, and brine shrimp.

Hope shells come back in stock at hermit crab patch. So hard figuring out what size shells I need when they aren’t on the website now.

Last two are of the same crab that I’m still thinking of a name. My mom this I should call it Doc or Happy. It did not want to get off that plant that it pulled off the side of the tank so I was thinking Grabby but idk. Hard to name them when they just hide in the hut.

I love them! Relieved they're going to a person that knows how to care for them properly. They'll be sure to have a better life now

I hope so. I’ve been carefully reading my hermit crab book. Trying to use up the pellets ASAP. I offer other foods in the dish so they have a choice. Still figuring out instant ocean. Math is not my best subject

Ah, I'm sure you'll be okay. I just started using instant ocean a month ago, and am getting great results-- my E absolutely loves it! He's been noticeably active, the red around his joints are fading, and I see him in the deep sw dish at least once a week! He still insisted on staying in his little shell, though... ugh! Come on, George Washington!

Just caught them eating. The little thing in the dish that looks like a rock is Bashful.

Aw! I thought of hungry hungry hippos when I saw the other one shamelessly eating! Maybe that could be the other one's name? Shameless or Hungry hippo?

I decided to name the one that’s a pig- Happy. And he’s was eating probably all night and was still eating the morning. Pretty sure he’s buried under the food dish that’s basically empty now

Is there some online calculator that available to figure out how much instant ocean I would need?

The instant ocean package says for small quantities use 1/2 cup of instant ocean per each US gallons. I'm plaining on using a water bottle that holds 700mL of water to store my salt water mix. My water dish (zoo med repti rock dish medium) holds a little less then 1 cup of water.

Not sure about the calculator, but glad you came up with a name!

Happy is back at the food dish again. He’s must be really hungry. Hope Bashful wakes up soon before Happy completely pigs out
