What kind of crab?

Hello everyone! I've been lurking on your board for about a month (since our impulse decision to pick up an 'easy' hobby🤣🤣🤣, my bad)

I have learned SO MUCH, and I appreciate you all!

I do have a likely very dumb question.

How the heck to I know what kind of crabs we have??

We got 4 crabs from Petsmart. They are currently in a 10 gallon terrarium with 6" of substrate (mixed sand and coconut fiber) they are getting a newer, bigger home once the little buggers come back up.

They have been buried for about 3 weeks, and best I can tell they aren't eating. (Unless they're eating the moss)

I feel a little lost, but I'm excited to learn and grow with our new pets!

Most of the crabs in the Petsmarts are purple pinchers.

Have a look at the biggest claw: if it’s coloured like this ones it’s the same type of crab as my hermit crab. (Purple pincher )Image

Welcome to crabbing and the HCA!
Crabs don't need to eat anything when they are under, but you should keep food out just in case they are coming up at night. They will likely come up at different times, and some might go under again. If you can, you'd probably be best setting up the new tank, and moving them over as they come up. Otherwise, you could be waiting a very long time for them all to be on the surface at the same time again!

Welcome! And Curly and 22pony22 basically summed up the answers to your questions! If you have others, please let us know. I'm sure people on here, hopefully myself included, can help!
(like 22pony22 said, most petsmart crabs are purple pinchers, or PP's for short).
