Hello! I just adopted a hermit crab about a week ago and four days ago, my hermit crab buried himself and then Three days ago, my hermit crab came up to drink some water and eat but he hasn’t come up ever since. I’m not sure if it is because he is stressed or molting....or is he lonely? I currently only have one hermit crab but I plan on getting another one later today. Is it okay to get another hermit crab if my other crab is buried in his substrate. By the way, the temperature is at 75 degrees F and humidity is perfect. Please let me know what to do. Thank you!!

Sounds to me like it’s still destressing. I wouldn’t worry about it. I don’t know how big your tank is, but I would get two instead of one so the one won’t be lonely. This is assuming you have the space.

Okay, thank you so much!! I have a 10 gallon tank with one crab...and I have read that you can put up to 3 crabs in a 10 gallon tank so I think it’ll be good! Thank you!

Also, do you know about how long I should expect my hermit crab to destress?

Could be days or weeks. Generally, it takes around a couple weeks.
