Hello! I'm new and looking forward to adopting my hermies!

Hey everyone!

I recently was given an opportunity to adopt 3 hermit crabs, and I am so excited! After doing so much research I realized how bad I treated hermit crabs in my youth, and definitely don't want to repeat that! I just want to hear from you guys if I have a good setup for my crabs as I know moving tanks can be very stressful for them, and I would want to make their transition as easy as possible.

So due to my living condition, the most I can fit is a 20 gal long tank, but I have filled it up to 6 inches of substrate with a mix of play sand and eco earth. I ended up buying two 6 x 11 ultratherm UTHs, which doesn't cover the whole back but I'm hoping it's enough to heat up the tank. (I will insulate it if I need to). I have set up freshwater and saltwater pools! I plan to go through what to feed them through the guides on here!

Here are a few pictures of my Crabitat! I am still waiting on a 2nd feeding dish! I guess my main concern is that it may be overcrowded? Should I take some stuff out of the tank?

Thank you so much!

No, it’s nice! I always preferred having more in the tank than less to provide cover.

Looks like a pretty solid setup to me! Enjoy your new crab babies!

It looks great! My tank is super crowded with greenery to the point, I can’t find my guys sometimes, lol. I like to think they prefer it that way because they have more hidey spots and feel safer . Tank looks awesome though! Congrats...and enjoy them!

I know you said you were waiting on a food dish but I find my crabbies like their food separate (like my grandson) so I use these https://smile.amazon.com/Plastic-Palett ... 957&sr=8-6

Looks amazing!! That is probably one of the best starter setups I have seen. That is so awesome. I do have a recommendation though, in the pic it looks like the moss pit is a little over the water dish? That is completely fine, but my crabs tend to knock out their moss all over the place, as well as my plastic soap holders have holes on the bottom and top and it makes a bit of a mess. What I am saying is you might find moss in the water dish depending on how messy your crabs are, again it is totally fine just saying it might get annoying after a while, lol. :)
