Dead crab smell

Dead crab smell

Hi all, i had my nephew over to a small beach condo we have last year. He begged his mom for a hermit crab which of course he lost in my condo later that day! We looked for 2 days and couldnt find the thing. Anyway fast forward to last weekend, we went to the condo to get everything ready for summer, we walked in and it STINKSSSSS like dead fish. My wife said maybe its the hermit crab. The smell is so strong, the crab was so small, and its been a year...is it possible that the hermit crab could be responsible for the smell???
