New To Proper Care And This Site!

Hi All! I'm going to use this post to introduce myself.

I'm Grey, but my username was named after my bird, Spearmint. I'm not comfortable with sharing my age but I'm under 18, so please understand that my care is not 100%, as to why I joined this site! I'm still trying to figure out all the mechanics so I apologise if I reply to something by accident etc  . I currently own one hermit crab, as the others passed away in moulting due to bad living conditions. My current hermit crab has been with me for 4 years, Smog. My parents had bought me hermit crabs as a child, not doing research and listening to pet store information. Now that I am older and have access to the internet, I started to realise how bad my care was! No humidity, pellet food, cold tank, calcium sand, dry coconut peat scattered on the floor, painted shells etc. The tank i currently have is fairly small but it is what I have on hand as of now. They have salt water and fresh water, a 1:5 ratio of play sand and eco earth, 25 ( degrees? I forgot but its a good temperature), 99% humidity that I'm trying to lower using sphagnum moss because I'm getting a lot of mould growth. Food changes daily, today it was Corn, freeze dried krill, kale, blueberries, carrots, dried calendula flowers and some eggshell. Substrate is as deep as I can get it in the tank, and its deep enough for my hermit crab(s) to dig under safely, about 5 inches deep. On a good note I have purchased a new tank, it is still a work in progress. The new tank is 150L, sealed lid, and very very deep substrate! It hopefully will be done soon. I treat my water bowls with seachem prime, and it smells really bad and looks like it has black particles inside? I'm not too fussed about the smell and look, I'm just worried if its been tampered with in any way, I'd appreciate if somebody could take a picture of the inside of their bottle!

-Thanks, Grey. ( Any Pronouns )

Welcome to the board!

The black particles in the prime is a bit of a worry, it should smell (it has sulphur in it, causing it to smell like eggs) but the black floaties.... defs no. I'd return and ask for another.

Keep a good eye on the temps, 25C is fine, but your profile mentions your in Aus (I got curious that you mentioned Celsius haha!) you may find that you'll struggle to keep the heat up in winter!

Seachem says black flecks are normal.
