New Hermit Family

Hi!

My name is Aly and we're very happy to have our trio. I saw the super soggy condition their tank was in at a pet store and I just knew I had to get at least 3 of them out of there. I was so worried that I possibly would have had to deal with shell rot or crabs too stressed and very ill, but we got lucky.
We haven't a clue what to name them yet, but I'm just glad to have them in our home. They are quite interesting!

So far they seem pretty happy and pretty active. The biggest one looked incredibly vibrant the other day with their appropriate diet. The smallest crabby seems timid and hides more than the other two. The biggest is the bravest and the middle one seems like that laid back friend that everyone wants. Lol

Yes, we're one of the few families that heavily researches the proper care of an animal before actually getting one. Our sub is deep enough for molting, our moss keeps a good dampness, the crabbies LOVE the shrimp and the bee pollen the most. They'll eat other things, but they definitely prefer these two things over the others we've tried so far. They have both a fresh and salt water pool. Their food stays in a clean dish and changed every day. Humidity ranges from 75-85% depending on the time of day (summer is hot hot in my area right now). The white light goes off at night but I keep a deep dark blue light on to try and simulate the moon. My next stage in their habitat is adding a second floor so I can get their shell shop off the sub and give them something else to climb and on the other side another hideout. I'm saddened I had to remove the one I had in there as it was starting to mold, but I do have a type of plastic carpet vine in place of a hideout until I can get to the pet store and get another one. Definitely keeping my eyes on the marketplace for a bigger tank, because I'd like them to have more stuff I've already bought. Ha!

I'll upload a couple of pictures as soon as I can! It's just currently bed time for my house and we all have to leave the house super early.

welcome!
(one of our petstore's crab tank has the opposite problem: the humidity was at about 40%.)

Welcome to the site! As for mold, it is bound to happen with the heat and humidity. It isn't harmful to the crabs, don't panic. You can simply wash it off of items. And then soak or boil in salt water, and let items dry completely in order to help prevent it from happening again.

Ah. Okay. I'll know that for next time. Thank you for the insight!

I sure hope so! The sub in their store tank was like mush. I'm definitely ready for their bigger tank. So many ideas for climbing and decorations! Haha Someone should have told me this was addictive!
