Confused about Kendall

Post by hermitsinnc » Fri Jul 22, 2022 2:40 pm

I just rescued a crab from a neighbor. She came in a kritter keeper, painted shell, etc but is much happier now and has already changed shells!

She is not currently with the M's, but I plan to combine them today or tomorrow.

One of her back legs is missing, but she gets around just fine.

The food we were given with her was the ZooMed pellets which do contain copper sulfate. I threw it out, but should I be worried about the long-term effects on her health?

I know I should assume that she is a PP, but would like some reassurance that she isn't a Strawberry.

I would describe Kendall's coloring as raspberry chestnut.
She is quite large, although it is hard to get a measurement on her because the shell she chose (about a 1 3/8" opening) looks big on her. She won't go in to let me measure her shell, and legspan probably isn't an accurate measurement because of her missing leg (although the one I got was at least 3 inches).
She is very active, almost constantly.
Her legs are hairy, and she basically lives in the water pool (I forgot to label them, but I think it's salt?). Could she have increased need/desire for salt because she lacked it in her previous home?

She is 100% a purple pincher.

There is a lot of hate for commercial foods and when fed alone they are kinda sus, but there have been many crabs that lived for a decade or two on just pellets. I would never consider them a complete diet on their own, but they don't seem to be as toxic as originally feared. I personally wouldn't be worried about her longterm health from that. Not being able to molt properly and when needed is the immediate threat, as that damage can be cumulative and may not be noticeable until she molts once or twice for you now that she can do so safely.

Kendall's doing great! She's molted twice since this picture was taken and is still in the same jade turbo, although she's due for a change pretty soon.

I'm rooting for her! Do you have any updated pics of her? I would love to see how she has grown!
