Shell changing

Hi, I'm Cal. I got some hermit crabs gifted to my class as a pet. We have enjoyed reading so much about them but I have a couple questions. We love them so much my son is now wanting some at home.
1. How often do crabs change their shells? I've had them for about 2 months and haven't seen any shell changing. Which I am very excited about.

2. None have gone down to molt yet should I be concerned that they haven't melted yet?

3. Is it weird to want a nighttime camera to watch their activity? And what cheap Nighy camera would you recommend?

Welcome to crabbing and to the site!
How often they change is quite variable. It is not unheard of for them not to change within the time you have had them. Be sure to check out the 'shells' care sheet to ensure you are offering the right types of shells. HCA recommends 3-5 extra shells per crab.

If they molted shortly before you got them, they may not be due for another molt for a while. That said, be sure that you have appropriate substrate, and that it is moistened so it is sand castle consistency.

It's not weird at all! Many people have cameras! Depending on where you live, Wyze is a commonly used brand. I am in Canada, and have a Geeni camera - altho it isn't currently on my crabs, I am using it for another purpose.
