Crabs being funny

Mine don't do many things like that either, haha. Sometimes I see no crabs and sometimes I'll see a few out exploring-- nobody comes running for the food dish or anything though lol.

Well at least they are not being "crabby".. I have had crabs kick others off ledges..walk behind them and "kick"!

Aww, we don't have much of this going on either, but the other morning I turned on the tank light and General Crabbington was out exploring-- he obviously didn't appreciate the sudden daylight and went in search of a place to hide. There was a little green crab "hiding" in the opening of a giant shell and Gen. Crabbington went over and flipped the green guy out of the large shell and crawled his crabby butt right on in.

I think it's because other people have has some of theirs for years maybe? Mine are not so active but I haven't had them long. My one crab will be really active ever other night, last night she enjoyed climbing her vine and then jumping off into the water.

I've had one of mine a year and that one does the least amount of things compared to the rest and your crab sounds like a proper fun one that loves diving

Haha yeah she's my active crab, the other enjoys sleeping and then waking up to eat, drink, get little exercise then sleep again. It's funny how they are complete opposites. One is active and loves to climb while the other loves to sleep and dig.

I mostly see mine out at night. Like 1, 2 in the morning. They do most of their activities while I sleep. While, since I started crabbing in November they are more active than before, they are no means active constantly. I have to sneak up on my crabs. That, or approach slowly. Some don't mind me, watching others bolt if I even walk by the tank at all. They're pretty chill though. They like to lounge, XD

Mine are up around about that time and later and all i can hear sometimes is a crash against the glass but when I go look they are just sat there :roll:

Maybe you don't watch your crabs as much as others? Maybe some people just tell their stories really well and that makes the crabs seem entertaining? A good observer and writer can made the mundane seem enchanting.

That could be an explanation although I do watch my crabs quite a bit I don't watch them for hours a day as they aren't in an easy place to watch them for hours

I think I just have 2 lazy crabs. One gets active at night but the other eats and then sleeps, she's still distressing so hopefully after a successful molt she will be active, she's molting now so fingers crossed, the other crab is lazy for 2-4 days then from storing energy she goes crazy in the tank. Running around, climbing, checking out every shell, jumping into pools from the vines, she even wakes up at 6 pm to do this which is early for them, and after she gets her energy burst out she will laze around for a few days.

Haha sounds like your crabs are a handful at times

Aww I feel sorry for your little crab but that sounds like ti would be funny to watch

I think a lot of things effect activity levels, but all things being equal it's "personality." I have the same crabs always doing goofball things all the time. Slipknot, Saltie, Marina, these guys account for the majority of the activity and antics everyday. I think also an active, goofball crabs gets the others going more too. So if you have one of these types they quickly become a favorite.

And my guys always coming running for the food dishes when I feed! They come in waves, but they really do come out of the woodwork, within like one minuet. I don't know if it's because I feed them at the same time everyday, and they just know it, or what.

Just an idea, but since you do feed at the same time everyday perhaps they are conditioned to know that time and tank opened equals food. Maybe I should try this, just for fun. But I agree with personality, some of mine are more active, some are shy.

Idk your Setup... But i added a hollow cork log and my crabs and i LOVE it! They love climbing ALL over it and i love it because the paticular one i purchased enables me to see through a hole at the top and one at the side!! Its a good snack for them too they nibble on it!! You can see what Im talking about in the pic.
