And the candles aren't right next to the tank just in the same room is that ok?. Other than that thank you for taking the time for correcting what needs to be fixed! :D :D
You are very welcome! Sorry about autocorrect! I laughed about "molders", should have read molters. Also, 20 shells should be fine, however, make sure you have plenty of different types for pp's and e's. E's prefer "d" type openings. You can find more info under the forums. As far as the candles believe it or not, aquariums are porous. Even in the same room you should be careful of cleaners/scents that you use. I do not recommend using them. Good luck! Image

I would not put E's in a tank unless it had a minimum 12" of substrate.
HCA recommendation is 3X deeper than your largest crab.
6" would be the minimum for tiny crabs.

E's tend to like more protein sources.

Temps and humidity need to be in the mid 80's ideally.

They need a marine grade saltwater mix like Instant Ocean. 1/2 cup per gallon.

Please read over our care guides when you get a chance. They cover everything you need to know.

Changing the substrate is not necessary unless you have a flood or bacterial bloom. This can stress the crabs out and disrupt the molting process.

Beneficial bacteria builds up in the sub and aids in breaking down waste.

What is an 'S' tank? and I added more play sand and coconut inside the tank, as for shells, i have both of those that you have recommended I just need to purchase more. I see a lot of people buying bulks of them at crafts stores. I used to buy mine at a beach store that sold shells but i guess craft store is a bit better for my money. Like I said earlier i adopted 8 hermits and two of them have already changed their shells, just waiting for the other 6 to change out of their terrible painted shells! I do appreciate everyone's input today :D

Oh goodness, I didn't even catch that you were changing entire substrate! Btw, when adding new substrate when molters are down, only add one inch a day. Also, I personally don't recommend handling the crabs. They are prey animals. It stresses them out. The only time I've handled mine is when I upgraded my tank, or if absolutely necessary. . Soilentgringa probably meant in a instead of s.

Oh! The only time i changed out the entire tank was when i saw all that stuff but recently I just added more sand and coconut fiber. And yes, i never handle the hermits unless i have to. They're such cute delicate creatures
