Under for Three Weeks and Now Two More
My sweetie, Dino, a PP that we've had almost a year has the best personality. I call him a diva because he's changed shells 4 times, but only about a month ago did he bury under to molt. After three weeks of quiet I could hear a bunch of clicking, so I thought he would be back up within a couple of days and he was. His exo was pretty and bright and he ate and drank and played. Then a day later he dug under again. Now I haven't seen him come back up for another couple of weeks, and no noise. I arrange everything a certain way so I can tell if he comes out at night. He doesn't. Do crabs maybe half molt, come up for some grub and water and go back under for the rest? I check on his crabitat several times a day and talk to him hoping for some clicking. I don't want to dig him up even though I'm pretty sure I know where he's buried under, but I wonder if I'm talking to myself three times a day.

Hi, my guys definitely go under, stay down for a few weeks, pop up for a day or two and then disappear again. Sometimes for a day or two. Sometimes its a week or more. Seems totally normal to me. Just keep doing what you're doing. He'll pop out again. Crabs are weird.

It happens can when they are new and they do back to back moults, or just randomly just decide to grow some more a few years down the track.... Obviously making up for lost time! He knows what he is doing, so Im sure in the few weeks time he will be diva-ing again.

Welcome to the HCA!
Definitely don't dig him up. Sometimes they dig down to destress, sometimes they dig down to chill, and sometimes they dig down to molt. Just provide dechlorinated marine salt water, dechlorinated fresh water, plenty of protein, calcium, a variety of foods from the safe food list, heat and humidity a minimum of 80/80, and all should be well.

Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
