Is it normal for my crabs to always be hiding

My crabs usually just spend their time hiding, is it normal for them to be like that?

Did you recently get them? And where did you get them from?

It's possible they are destressing, or they may be super nocturnal & play hide-&-seek with you

They are pretty low on the food chain in the wild, so hiding during the day is very common. The more cover and places you have for them to hide in the tank, the more likely they are to out and active during the day. Birds are their biggest predator, so being out in the open leaves them vulnerable. Having places they can run to when they sense danger helps to make them a little bolder.

hi. yes! my exp as a newbie crabber is that crabs are prey animals and are naturally nervous. Not all crabs are shy, but lots of crabs are.
my very first 2 hid under a log for nearly 3 months. but now they hang upside down from the screen lid. and are out and about depending on where they are in the molt cycle.
give them plenty of shade and places to wedge and hide. deep substrate places to perch and climb. they will reveal their personalities.

Most of mine hide. Its been about 2 months since I have seen a few of them due to molts and destress. Its a very common thing.

The don't hide very well, I just wanted to know if that was normal. I've had them most of them for three months now. Got two of them from my local petco and one of them was given from me from someone I know that got it at south padre a few years back. Pretty sure they're very active at night
