Crab very scared

Post by TheCrabLord » Fri Jun 23, 2017 7:33 am

So I went away for about 8 days and asked my mom to take care of my crabs. Both of them are alive and well, but my larger crab Penelope now retreats very far into her shell if I come close to the crabitat or pick her up. Every time she thinks I'm not looking she races into the cocohut. I asked my mom if she picked her up and she said she picked up the other one, which I don't really believe and I think she made a mistake. Usually if I take Penelope out of the crabitat she comes out and explores, and if i hold her a way she doesn't like she tries to move and get a better grip. I know she's not molting because she comes out.

It's pretty normal for crabs to be scared, they are prey animals after all and we are very large and scary. I wouldn't hold anything against your mom. I'm sure with time, he/she will act normal again. I wouldn't keep picking her up though.

Agreed. I don't handle my crabs, but when I go on vacation, my crabs are even more afraid of me - they get so used to not having anyone around

they dont have the same memories we do. not seeing you for so long even if she wasnt missed handled could be enough. if you guys do have a bond you should be fine once you get on routine. Hermione was under 7-8 months on a molt and when she came up she was such a scardy crab.
