Not even fresh coconut can coax them out of their hiding spots

Re: Hurricane
I wish u the best and hope u and your family, crabbies included, are safe!
I just posted about this in a another thread. I had to evacuate due to flood warnings last feb. and did not want to leave the crabbies behind in case of power loss and I did not know when we would be allowed back in and since it wasn't a terribly long drive out of the flood zone I decided to take them. I put them in a Rubbermaid tub with a locking clip lid. Put plenty of sub in the bottom and drilled holes in the top for ventilation. Made a hole in the top for my lights but I think a uth on the side would have been fine. They did great in there in and the humidity stayed good with regular misting. Better safe than sorry I say

Re: Hurricane
My crabs knew the storm was over before I did. They were up and moving about a good 12 hours before i noticed the storm had moved on.

Re: Hurricane
I'm in Texas, thankfully the hurricane didn't make it this far out, but the morning before it hit my Mom woke me to tell me Hermit, my blind crab, had found his way to the top of his hut. He stayed up there awhile, and I was afraid he had gotten stuck and couldn't find his way back down ( he'd recently come up from a molt, previously he'd only had one eye but when he came up instead of a gel eye his working eye had shrunk!) so I placed a piece of krill next to him in case he was hungry... He freaked out and climbed off, and I guess he realized he was safe because he didn't climb back up. Didn't connect it to the hurricane because my other two crabs were still molting. Then today Spider-Man stayed on top of his hut, and now Hammy is sitting on top of the tallest piece of wood and Hermit is trying to climb his hut. It's amazing they can detect the weather like that, even while inside a tank inside a house far away from storms. I'm keeping an eye on the news just to be safe.

Re: Hurricane
I'm also in Ohio, and I can confirm that we get the tail end of the storms. Last year (I think?) my crabs all came up and were unusually active. Right now all of my PPs appear to have come up and are hanging out in the moss pit off the ground.
