Isopods

Post by annedow9 » Mon Oct 16, 2017 7:58 pm

I have a lot of isopods I’m my tank. It’s 65 gal but there are babies everywhere. Especially when I clean the water pools there in the containers underneath. Is that ok or should I get rid of some?

Well.....I usually agree with with what my fellow mods say, but in this case I don't. If there is a lot of room in the tank, lots of places for them to hide, and lots of food, they will continue to multiply. I personally recommend moving some to a separate container. In one of my crabitats they literally were trying to run the tank. We had a friend come over, and he said, "That's where all of the roly pollies went!" Although the comment was funny, I knew it was time to do something. I started moving them to a tote, and my hermits have been much happier. I wish I could post a video here - It's CRAZY how these guys are multiplying!!!! I have them in a 35 gallon tote, and even though I have layers upon layers of cork bark/oak bark....their number are ENDLESS!
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

In an aquarium, no matter the size they will simply run out of resources. No matter what, simple ecology. ;) even though our tanks are artificial environments, they simply can not keep multiplying like crazy without consequence.

The consequence was that I started not seeing my hermits as much :hlol: j/k I just probably didn't let it get that far :)
