The struggle.

Post by NeWbE123 » Wed Jan 24, 2018 8:11 am

So for Christmas I got a new 22 gallon tank to move my crabbys into. But that night my pp mischievous went for a month long molt. So I have 2 Es as well and they patiently waited for her to come up. Now, the other night she finally came up and I got really excited! Thought I could finally switch them from my 10 gallon to the 22. But this morning when I get up to do so. The two Es are gone! I guess I waited too long and missed my chance to change all three over. gotta wait another month or two until they come up now ... -_-

Ah, the joys of owning hermit crabs! I had a similar situation happen to me a couple of weeks ago when I switched from my old tank to my new 120 gallon. I knew that one was molting so I moved all the other crabs over and kept the tank running that had my 1 molter in it until she came back up and had enough time to harden her exoskeleton, before I moved her back with the rest of the group :) just think that in a month or two, you'll have your brand new tank set up!

I just went through that. I went from a 40 gal to a 90 gal. I have 5 crabs. 2 were under. I moved the 3 over and kept watch on the old tank for the other 2. One of them has been up and down so I knew he'd be up soon. Took about 3 days, so I dipped him in the pool in the new tank (just in case) and put him in. Now I'm just waiting on the last one. He's been under for a couple of months (I hope he's alive). If you don't start moving them you will always risk at least one being buried.
