Jumpy crab?

Post by AirConditioner » Sat Jan 19, 2019 7:24 pm

I'm not sure if this fits here but I'm just wondering if my crabs will always be so scared of me? I feel terrible when I'm just trying to get out of my room to do something and it seems if Mr. Krabs even sees me moving in his general direction, no matter how I move he freaks out and either hides in his shell immediately or pushes himself backwards as far away from me as possible. I don't believe he was like this before he molted but the other two I don't react in such an extreme way. Is something up with him? Is there any way I can make him less scared of me when I move around?

Some crabs are just a little more skittish then others, however he should start to clam down eventually as he slowly begins to realize your not a threat. Also, if your crabs don't have a lot of places to hide it might make them even more afraid of you, so I would suggest adding in some more things for him to hide behind so he feels a little more secure. But it's nothing to be worried about. I find hermit crabs have a wide range of personalities; some will be calm all the time, while others are always jumpy. Hope this helps!

I’m not a hermit crab parent yet, soon will be, but I have done some research and I would probably agree with the above. I do not have experience yet, so consider your options. Hope this helps!
I have had pets in the past, but my family can’t have any furry or feathered ones due to allergies. I usually try my best to help and currently trying to set up a crabitat. I also try to treat others with Love!❤️

Yes, this is the right place for your post :) Hermit crabs are prey animals, so it is natural for them to be afraid. Providing several places for them to hide, as mentioned above, is definitely a way for them to feel more secure in their environment. I personally don't handle mine, and I only reach in their crabitats for other things, but my crabbies have always been afraid of me.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
