Awake during daytime?

Post by Plasmoc » Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:27 pm

I’ve lost 2 crabs over the last few months, both got very lethargic and sick before dying. In the emergency forum I was told all my parameters looked good.

I have 1 medium crab molting, and another medium crab who usually sleeps all day in the shell pit and then charged around making a mess of stuff at night.

The last couple days he’s been very active at daytime and night time. He had times of sleeping snd tunes of sitting still staring at nothing, but mostly he’s moving around, climbing, eating, going into the fw or sw dishes.

Is this. Bad sign? I don’t think it’s PPS because he’s very active.... but I’ve never seen him up so much during the daytime! Is he just being weird or is this a sign before getting sick?

Also, is this the correct type of Prime to use?

Yes that's the right prime. My husband's PP's are always out at night and sleep all day. Now that summer is here, they are out all the time. Don't worry. Crabbies do whatever they want, whenever they want! Don't try to figure them out. It will never happen! We have 30+ crabs and they are always acting differently! My crabbies are out at all different times. If your heat, humidity, foods, substrate are all good, maybe he's just happy and enjoying it all!

I have two crabs that are always day active and pigging out in the middle of the day. To be honest, in nature they’re nocturnal because the sun would cook them and they’d be easier to spot by day time predators. My theory is that because they don’t worry about either of those in captivity they chose when they want to be active. Most will still be nocturnal, but others will figure out they’re safe and do as they please.

Ok thank you! I think I’m just over-analyzing because I’m still worried about why my other 2 crabs died. I fear I’m missing something, but when we went through all my parameters etc on the emergency template it all looked good. The only thing we found was to offer meat / egg more often. I have and they seem to ignore it, but I’ll keep offering it along with covering the rest of the food pyramid.

Also, that’s the same Prime bottle I’ve been using for a long time. I just realized I hadn’t checked before if that was the right type of Prime. Glad it’s the right one.
