My hermit is not as active, the other one possibly molting?
I rescued my hermit crabs about 2 months ago and they originally started with a 29 gal tank. About a month ago I added a topper the exact size of the bottom tank so now the tank is almost to the ceiling. My hermit crabs were very active when I got them, even during the day- but I was on a day trip when one of them went down for a molt? He had been digging in the substrate for about a week before that so I figured he was trying to find the right spot. I have not seen him in about 3-4 weeks. My other hermit crab has been very reserved since his friend has gone down for the molt. I have a glass tupperware dish in the sand filled with sphagnum moss, and he sleeps in there all day, and if not half the night. Obviously I sleep during the night and I don't have cameras but they used to tear up the tank, I would see noticeable sand, etc. Now it is like nothing has been touched. I am probably just overreacting but is he sick or something? I miss my active baby! I change the food every 1-2 days, but he barely touches it. The water dishes used to be dirty in 4-5 days, now I can go a week without touching them. Someone let me know!

Happy crabs actually tend to be less active. They also become less active before a molt. Don't dig around looking for the crab who is underground, just wait for him to come back up on his own. This all sounds quite normal.
