Saltwater brings Elmo to life!!

Post by Guest » Fri Mar 24, 2006 1:11 pm

I have had one of my hermies for about 6 months. This crab is the most bashful guy ever!!! Honestly, since I have had him I have not once seen him roaming, playing, nothing!!! He is ALWAYS buried! I checked on him occasionally to make sure he was alive, otherwise, he was left alone! I added the saltwater (story in Emergency) and WOW!!! He is actually out, playing and letting us handle him!! I cannot believe the difference that saltwater has made! Thanks to everyone who gave all the great advice!! I now have a new crab!!! I took some great pictures of him, I'll post them soon!!!

I had 2 crabs for 6 months before i learned that they needed salt water. They were PPs which didn't REQUIRE it, but I put some anyway. Both of them were sitting in the salt water, drinking away, and both molted in that week. My guess is they need it to molt properly.

ALL crabs need salt water. How much they like or want depends on the species but all of them need salt water.

Only a year ago on these forums we were saying that PPs didn't need the salt water. Now the consensus is they all need it. I'm glad to see we are making progress towards taking care of these neat critters!
