To bathe or not to bathe

One of my crabs spends his day hiding under the half log and usually only come out at night after everyone is asleep. I have only bathed him once since he was bought from the store since he is always hiding. He comes out at night after everyone is asleep. Should I take him out from under the log to bathe him or should I leave him alone. Also his tank mate has recently switched shells and I have not seen him since. I am assuming he is molting correct?

this is a touchy subject. i never bath my crabs as i feel it causes stress, but its up 2 u

I think as long as you have deep enough fresh and salt dishes, they are fine. It messes up their shell water, and stresses, plus you should never dig up burried crabs. I don't unless I get mites.

I used to bath, but stopped after reading several posts some time ago. Instead I opted for good water dishes which the hermies can bath in themselves. They seem to do it too, although sometimes by accident. I have had no problems with them doing this, but i also had no problems bathing them went I first got hermies.

Thanks for the feedback. I've got a large fresh water dish and a medium salt water dish. I can tell that they climb in because the water almost always has some eco earth in it by morning.

I only bathe my crabs when I have to clean my tank. I do a surface, moss pit, and dish cleaning about once a month. Then I do a deep clean about once every 5 months.
