difficult choice, id like some opinions

Post by annopia » Sun Oct 14, 2007 5:41 am

im having a mental tug of war right now about the housing of a medium ecuadorian, Rader. i got Rader about five months ago in a shredding painted shell, with only two walking legs and half of his little pincher. he has been in iso the entire time he has been with me, in a 5.5 gallon outfitted with all that he needs. he has, in the past couple months, completed back to back molts to emerge completely whole and healthy. my mother (who is taking care of my crabs while im living in Australia) has expressed worry about him being lonely. and hermies being the social creatures that they are, he needs company.

but heres the problem i have. i have two tanks, a 20L and a 10gallon. the 20L houses the bigger guys (1 large PP, 1 large straw, 2 medium PPs, and an oddball teenie PP), and the 10 gallon house the little guys (2 small PP, 2 teenie Es, 1 micro E, 2 teenie rugs). based on his size, Rader should go into the larger tank. but the problem is that one of the crabs in the big tank, Lila (medium PP and my oldest crab), is a danger to Es. she has killed or maimed every E that has been housed with her (3 in total, 2 teenies and a medium). this is why i don't keep my Es in that tank, only PPs and straws. but putting Rader in the small tank would crowd it and he would be a little out of place. so theres really no perfect solution.

opinions on where i should put him? id really appreciate your input.

Caroline

ps: even with this little problem, im tickled to death to have rader with me and cant wait to see him and his new limbs in a little less than a month :D

oh, i would like nothing better than to set up a new tank and get a couple little tank trashers for company, but im not sure if 3 tanks is really feasable for me right now. im still not sure what my college housing is going to be next semester, and if i get stuck in a dorm room theres no way i could have another tank.

but i AM so excited to see you! i should be back mid-late november, perhaps we can do an NC petco run to look for some exotics?

I would do a little switch-a-roo and move some PPs to the larger tank and then put the lonely E in with the other E's. That's what I would do :-)

Yes, I think I would try and get the Es to be together too, at least until you arrive home.

I really dont think adding Radar to the 10 gallon would be that big of a problem.... And I also noticed that you mentioned that you have 1 Straw... They like to have a friend of there own kind... Maybe you could get another one! :D
