What is she doing?????

Post by Guest » Tue Oct 16, 2007 6:20 pm

I have only been crabbing since the beginning of September and only have two crabs in my tank. Nobody else made it. Lola has been in the same spot forever. She is dug down about halfway up her shell but not covered and wedged under the tree branch in the tank. I don't think she has moved from that spot for a few weeks. I have smoothed out the substrate around her to spot if she moves and she hasn't. There is no fishy smell in the tank. Could she be molting, destressing or what? Is it best to just leave her alone. I am so curious as to what is going on. Thanks

Depending on how long you had her, she could be distressing. If you had her over a month, then she is probably molting. Alot of my crabs who go down to distress end up molting, so maybe she is doing both! :)

she could be moulting, make sure the humidity and temperature is alright for her to have a successful moult. :)

All i would do is water spray near where she is and put some food next to her also try and smell to see if there is a fishy smell hemrit crabs can stay burried for up to over 80 days!!!

sharky: The amount of time it takes for a crab to moult mostly depends on its size. A small should take about 1 month, and you can expect a jumbo to be gone for around 3 months.

Plus there are exceptions. I recently had a small moult for 71 days!
