Well my opinions may come across harshly but, at times that is needed to get a point across. However like I said they are opinions and should be taken as such, no one has to agree with me.

What I don't get is why so many people here on the HCA care about changing the stereo typical image of crabs ( Kids pets, Cheesy, Easy etc) but then do things like put them in hamster balls and watch them role around. Just does not make sense....>_<

And to coosiver. If it is Hypothetically "cruel" to keep crabs then why aggravate it more with things like hamster balls and other forums of mishandling. However I think that both you and I agree that keeping crabs is in fact not cruel in the least. I just don't think hermits have the memory space to remember their old life at the beach, I think they pretty much live in the moment.

My last word is that I think that to be a responsible crab hobbyist we should respect are crabs buy molesting them as little as possible.

By the way, I would still say everything I said even if I was in slapping distance so I am still following the rule :D

different people do different things. if i wasn't already an established member here, the posts in this thread attacking those who use these balls might cause me to leave. i think this thread needs to be closed, so im going to pm a moderator. we are not here to pass judgement on well-meaning people concerning something as nebulous as a hamster ball.

I'm not passing judgment if I wanted to do that I would have accepted my offer to run for rep.

I don't see why you would have to leave over something as "nebulous" as a hamster ball if you truly believe in your opinion then why leave? You have your opinion and I have mine we are both just voicing our opinions.

And I was not "attacking" you, mearly questioning how you can tell if your crabs "enjoy" being in a hamster ball, if you can prove that putting them in a hamster ball is beneficial to hermits then, by all means do so, I will be the first to admit that I am wrong.

I suspected this would be closed, once someone disagreed with the standard opinion anyway....

can you prove that putting them in a tank is beneficial to hermies? i dont mind people disagreeing with me, simply when they do so in a high-and-mighty way. there is a way to constructively criticize, and several people in this thread did not use it. perhaps something like: "yes, ive seen those balls, i would be worried, however, about it stressing the crab out, since it is taken out of its maintained enviroment."

what you did was imply that a "responable crab owner" would never use one of these balls, and if an individual did so, they were obviously a shabby caregiver.

We need to remember to talk like mature people when subjects like this come up. Saying your thoughts and giving reasons and back up examples are fine. Just insulting others thoughts however is not fine. Harshness is never needed or should be used on the HCA when talking to other members, we all have to be friendly with each other. If some people don't wish to be friendly they should not bring that bad attitude here. Not only does insulting others thoughts hurt feelings, but it does not get us going anywhere. Are hamster balls good for crabs? If there are members who have thoughts they get back up those with facts, their own studies, etc. Adding insults doesn't help us or the crabs in anyway.

Just be kind, and if something is not kind just don't post. Plain and simple right?
