my crabs are digging like never before!
Well my lot look like they are living in a construction zone lol.
I have excavations going on in all four corners of the tank. One dug a big crater down to the glass then filled it back in.
Amazingly the woodlice I
put in this morning are also getting in on the act ??? maybe its a crustacean thing lol.
Also had my first shell change yay![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/003.gif)

I wonder if I still have woodlice? I had TONS in the 30 gallon before I moved them to the 55..scared me at first when I ssaw them~yuck ahhh~ I thought but after I found out what they were and streilized everything....even though the driftwood(where they probably came from) was put in the 55 for afew minutes before I realized it was infested with BUGS and then boiled...so I may have some in there still =)
My crabs have so many holes in my tank it is crazy..I can see tunnels going thourhout the tanka nd I even see big holes at teh bottom of the tank where they try to keep digging and can't!

you shouldn't need to buy woodlice. The outside ones are ok but if you have concerns you could isolate a colony of them in a mini crabitat shoebox size and let them go through a few generations first. Then add the new generation over time to your tat. This is of course if your worried about pesticides etc. I am lucky in that I got mine from our bug zoo, "The Bug House" in work so I know there are no contaminants.crabattack wrote:are the woodlice i find outside ok to put into my crabitat or do i need to buy them from the store
Haha!
Maybe the digging thing is the "crustacean seasonal time" to dig! Yeah my crabs are not down but are digging for no reason, then move to another spot, dig again, and repeat. Except for Kuzco who was roaming around, the rest were doin' nothin...
Hmm....I was wondering if I also use woodlice, will it escape cause I have no covering in my tat'.....

Just for a time reference, my crabs are still digging just like when it all started in late November. In the past 3 days, all have buried, and have not so much as surfaced for food. There has been no above sand activity as well. In the wee hours, I would hear them digging and shells contacting the aquarium glass, but all has gone quiet over the past couple of days. I don't know what to expect next. I do know that all are alive, as there are no bad odors from the tat. Maybe a mass molt is on the horizon? I have not had a molt yet but only got my crabs in mid September. Even my largest one "Bubba" is dug down, and quiet. Temps and humidity are about the same, although we are getting toward the coldest part of winter as far as a "seasonal" time line. The days are starting to get longer now that we are past the winter solstice (Dec 21).
