Have you ever had a crab give you attitude when you've...

...yelled at it etc?

Termite very determinedly climbed up some driftwood to where Spider was minding his own business and started pushing Spider and climbing on him. Then he started using his pinchers.

I went up to the tank and yelled rather loudly, hoping to break it up without having to open up the tank because I was mid way through preparing a pork roast.

When I yelled, Termite flinched then turned away from Spider, toward me and started flicking his antennas around that way they do when they are mad. He had a hissy fit at me, I swear. Then he went back to bullying Spider and I started waving my hands at him and he just flat out ignored me.

For something so small, he has a real attitude.

He must be the dominant one in the tank. He had a massive antenna war with Ghost when they met, but as soon as Ghost backed off, Termite calmed down and they've been very social with each other every since.

Probably flipped you the birdie to
You could look at it as being the alpha, but since they have such a variety of personalities, I figure you're bound to just get a jerk once in a while.

Once, when I had the 29 gallon crabitat, I didn't realize Elanor was hanging upside down on the screen lid. When I lifted it off she fell onto the floor. Horrified I picked her up to make sure she was OK and I swear she gave me the dirtiest look a crab could make. If looks could kill...

XD My troublemakers (Fred and George) give me the most awful looks, I swear. And they do it whenever I scold them for rolling the shells wherever I'm trying to clean.

He got out this morning. I don't know how, but he ended up sitting on top of the plastic sheet over the tank. I have absolutely no clue how. Utterly baffled.

He was absolutely livid at me when I tried to remove him - pinchers snapping at me like crazy. He's usually OK to handle, but apparently not when he's caught out at doing something naughty.

It was so funny when I put him back in. He INSTANTLY buried himself. Before I was done putting the top back in, he was under the sand and he almost never hides from me.

I had a problem with my biggest crab Tessa (she's either a medium or a large, haven't measured yet). I was trying to put peanut butter in the tank but she kept sitting in the dish. So I put her on the table so she'd be out of the dish. In the meantime, I offered up some applesauce and a hut on the table. She was furious. when I picked her up she waved her feelers about wildly and clapped her claws together. Mad crab was mad.

Yes, when I first brought our new additions home, we had a very small cage and gave them "Shell Days" outside the tank in a large bin with sand and new shells....they loved it, but the largest male (Herman) and the smallest (not by much) female (Rocky) seemed to have the same taste in shells. Being very new to this whole thing and having twins under 3yrs at the time, plus a just-turned-six-year-old, hands get full at times - like you with your roast.

And, like you, I yelled Herman's name and clapped my hands when it appeared as though he was going to attempt to remove Rocky from her shell... mostly because I was quite a distance away and didn't think I could get to them before a full-on fight broke out. Herman flinched, climbed down from Rocky and retreated for a time.

The next few times, I did not have to be as loud or clap my hands, but it seemed that just scolding with a slightly raised voice at least got their attention on something else.

I attributed it to their not liking loud noises and being in an unfamiliar situation with some giant talking heads popping up at them every so often.... :?
