I think I may have a blind crab... UPDATE APRIL 10, 2012
hhmmm I truly expected her eyes to start repair with this molt. I know my PP, Favre, had one very cloudy eye that shrunk when he molted but with each molt following that one it slowly repaired itself to the point of almost being normal sized. I still have hope that she'll repair her eyes too but if she's still behaving like a normal crab I don't think there's cause for much concern. Keep us updated.

Yeah, I expected her eyes to slowly go back to normal, but oh well. I still have hope for future molts.
I think she knows that something is wrong because I didn't expect her to molt that soon. It had only been about 5 months since her last molt. A crab of her size should be molting around once every 7 to 10 based on my casual observations from my other crabs. I think she must have been trying to repair her eyes.

to me the black looks darker and clearer, less cloudy. They look much healthier! That is great news that you think she can see! I see it as progress! Im so glad you got the photos and such great ones at that. Now i cant wait to see what happens next molt! I love her eye lashes..

Favre molted back to back in the beginning in an effort to repair his eye. I remember being very worried but he seems healthy and has returned to what I would consider a normal molting rate for his size. I wouldn't be surprised if your crab's next molt were sooner than it would normally be too. Glad to hear she can see!wolfnipplechips wrote:I think she knows that something is wrong because I didn't expect her to molt that soon. It had only been about 5 months since her last molt. The same way I knew she was blind. I did light/movement tests.
And Sue, I agree. Even though they may be smaller and oddly shaped, they ARE darker.

That is amazing!
I noticed when I first got my E that one of her eyes is smaller than the other and the bigger one even seems small for her body size, but her eyesight is excellent. After reading this I guess I don't have anything to worry about!
Those pictures of your crab's very cloudy eyes make me want to dust them off.

Re: I think I may have a blind crab... UPDATE MAY 3, 2011
She had another molt! She can most definitely see still. Any light or movement and she zips back into her shell. Not sure how much her eyes have changed regarding size/shape/darkness since the last molt...but here are some photos I took this time around.

Yay! I'm really glad she can see again! Crabs are amazing little creatures.

Is it my imagination or do her eyes look plumper?
