Sex change?

Post by Hermycrabitat21 » Fri Sep 02, 2011 9:50 am

is it possible that crabs can change their sex's? i was just checking out one of my E's that came up from a molt last week and well who i thought was a girl, well i didnt see any gonopores... i saw little circles though that were very light and barly noticable where the gonopores should have been. i think its the same E, she was a light green and now shes more brown but still has her green tint and shes the only one in my tank that was that color... im a bit confused. i keep track of all my crabs and i know she was deffinitly a girl when i got her. :pale:

:D I had the same thing happen to me once, but there was a time where I was sure that a crab was male, and then later, I found out that she was female. :P

I don't know if a complete sex change is possible, but maybe their looks can be deceiving sometimes.

I swear Fil was a boy when I got him/her. And then she was definitely female. And now... I have too many crabs to say for sure, but I think Fil may be a boy again! I've wondered myself if they were able to change. :)

I just sexed all of my hermit crabs. I've had them for a year, and of all ten of them, you know who had the same gender that I thought they were? Two. So everyone I thought was male ended up being female, and everyone I thought was female was actually male. I'm not sure what to believe anymore - I've sexed them all before without any problems, and now they have to pull THIS on me!
