Making your crab come out of his shell to great you.

Post by kuza » Sun Apr 01, 2012 5:43 pm

I find if I blow lightly into the opening of their shell they come right out feelers going smelling the air. Maybe it's my breath but they come out 100% of the time when I do this. Anyone else notice this same behavior. ?

Yes, and I've seen the workers in pet stores do this to get the crabs to come out.

I hope they know you don't need to blow hard at all. Even just a slight breeze works.

I do this sometimes, it doesn't always work for extremely skittish crabs. I always thought it was because our breath was warm and smelled like whatever we ate :D

I assumed that as well, because they seem to come out hungry!

It's only worked for us on crabs still in the store. Once they get home it doesn't work anymore! I always figured it was the warmth and moisture that made them curious. :)

(On a side note, my hubby did this in a pet shop and the owner freaked out thinking he was going to kiss the crab. You should have seen the look on her face! :hlol: )
