Do Hermit Crabs Sleep?
When hermit crabs place themselves in hidey place or somewhere and partially or fully retract into their shells are they sleeping or just grooming themselves inside their shells. I don't want to be disturbing my crab if she is sleeping!
Re: Do Hermit Crabs Sleep?
Probably sleeping. To groom themselves, I'm pretty sure they just wash out any gunk in the water bowls.

Re: Do Hermit Crabs Sleep?
They can't actually "sleep". Their metabolism slows and they go into a stupor to conserve energy until it's time to eat or drink or move again, but they aren't sleeping like mammals do.

Question. Is there a specific time of the day they go into this stupor. Or could it be whenever needed? Just curious.
I've got crabs...

Re: Do Hermit Crabs Sleep?
It seems to be whenever. Generally during the day though since they are active all night long.
