Felix is almost always visible and has always been my uber-territorial guy (had him 6+ years) -- the entire tank is his and only his so he could be anywhere at any time ! Anyone else at the food dish? Nuh-uh, get outta here! Climbing to the top of the grapevine? Don't think so, bud. It's mine, all mine bwahaha. No matter who else has lived with him (2 current roomies, 5 late lamented roomies), it's the same thing: mine, mine, mine. The real kicker is that he's still the smallest guy in the tank, the chihuahua with the big dog attitude. Harry is bigger and Big Enzo is enormous compared to Felix but both are afraid of him and get out of his way. Many's the time I've seen one of the guys literally drop food from his feeding claw and scuttle out of the food dish when Felix is still several inches away . People are always surprised when I tell them that hermit crabs have very individual personalities...well, people are always surprised when I tell them anything about hermit crabs.

I love reading these types of posts on HCA! It is great to hear about other people's crabs, and their adventures! I have two PPs and Sebastian stays under the coco hut all day, while Ollie stays in a little gap against the back glass wall. It is a little confusing recognizing who is who, because Sebastian changed shells, then went down to molt before I could see which shell she changed into. Now Ollie changed into Sebastians old shell. I will know who is who when Sebastian comes back up from their hangout spots in the tank, and their personalities. I am glad to hear my crabs are not the only ones doing nothing all day. The only reason I know they do stuff at night, is that I hear their shells hit against things, and from the little sounds they make. I am just hoping the things I put in the tank to climb is being used. I just want to see them climb on something, but nope, they just stay in their one spot all day.

I, too, have really enjoyed all the stories about others' crabbies. Great to know what's standard behavior and what's the particular crab's kookiness . Think the idea of a permanent thread re "What are your crabs up to?" is a great idea!

Crab Behavior seems a natural fit it.

I thought so too but I'm hoping the thread will yield lots of good pictures so I gave that one consideration too. Thanks! Can't wait to get it started
