They are probably all just molting. It is just when you have a smaller colony (like me), they can all go down at once.

Definitely not unheard of! I once had 12 of 13 down at the same time, back when I had less hermies. However, it's also a good idea to check your temperature and humidity (and double check your gauges) since they can mass bury when something isn't right with their conditions.

I just went out to the petstore to get a tempature/humidity gauge to check their climate both humidity and tempature are at optimum so it must be a mass molt :)

If it's a brand new gauge - especially if it's one with a dial reading - make sure to test the hygrometer before trusting it. The majority of humidity gauges will not read correctly until they've been calibrated and can be dangerously off. It's really simple to do, but needs to sit a while before you can check the results: http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 26&t=92540

Mine registers 10 high. Calibration is important.

The non-digital (analogue) ones are more likely to be off, since the jostling of shipping can bounce the springs inside out of whack.

My analog one measures 9 high. Good to calibrate.
All my crabs went under within days of each other. The first one just resurfaced after almost a month.

Anyone know if we can adjust the digital ones to read the right number? I know you can on the analog but haven't seen anything about the digitals.

Really expensive ones come with a way to adjust them - either buttons or a dial, but the cheaper ones don't. Have to do it mentally. :(

My husband found a crazy on that is wireless. The sensor goes inside and the screen is almost tablet sized and can have a base mounted to the wall and be portable if wanted.

He thought it would be helpful because I could take it upstairs at night. I used to have problems regulating temp and humidity but not any more. I think I would rather mount a camera and link it to my tablet.
