Looks so handsome :D . Dean has very good taste in shells!

Thanks! Dean is a viola I received from an adoption. I was very lucky and timing was just right. The exotics I have are from that adoption. 2 violas and 1 large/ jumbo indo. It was an amazing find for me and the woman I got them from I think was very happy to find someone near by who knew about crabs.

All day today my family has.heard me grumbling every time I peeked in the tank. They hear "lazy hermits!" Lol. My crabs have been super lazy today. Several of them have taken to digging during the day and coming out at night. Jerks throw a party every night and I never get invited. Tonight 2 of them are shell shopping. One of them is wearing a shell with a tiny hole in it. When he changes out I am taking it and tossing it. I am a notorious shell thief. I hover over the tank when new ones go into the tank in painted shells. They get taken out immediately. I probably have angry crabs for doing that. Lol

Today I got two new crabs from Petco, they are the most active guys in the tank. They really livened up the other guys. They seem to be very happy in their new home compared to the terrible conditions at Petco. They haven't changed shells yet, but I am hoping they will soon since they are painted. Currently they are attacking the food dish, and they seem very intent on either destroying or eating all the food in there. I had to do a refill today on food, and that almost never happens. They are cracking me up because they are like little bandits, curling into their shells until they think I'm not watching and then eating/carrying all the food to a hole that they dug :D. Man this is going to be soooo much fun to clean up in the morning :), but oh well!

It is their jobs as crabs to wreck the tank. Lol I had to just accept it. After my large Poseidon wouldn't stop thrashing things before he went down to molt I gave up. Lol

This is more to do with my youngest than the crabs but...

This morning I was woken up to, "Mom! Your hermit crab is loose!" I jumped out of bed and ran out there. "Where?", I said. "There!" and he points to the top of a crabitat. "There??" "Yeah." "THIS crab right here??", I said pointing to the hermit crab perched on the top corner of the crabitat. "Yep." followed by a lot of giggling. You see, that particular hermit crab is plastic and always sits there. Little stinker.

Felix and Harry have always played SpiderMan, climbing across the top of the tank. It would be no big deal if it was a screen top but it's a plastic and glass aquarium hood! Somehow, they manage to get their toenails right along the edge of the glass panel and work their way across the tank.

Along with one of the new guys, Big Enzo has been the only crab up for the past two weeks and finally decided to try the stunt himself the other night while wearing a fairly heavy magpie turbo shell (since swapped for his usual green turbo). Alerted to his efforts by the little clicking and picking sounds made by his toenails and shell against the glass, I sneaked over to the tank and watched the whole journey, all 20" of it. When he got to the far side, he grabbed the jute climbing net and just hung there, winded -- I think that's when he decided to go back to his lighter green turbo  .

I love everyone's pics! I don't have much to post since I still only have a couple crabs up. Tomorrow I'm going to be decorating the tank for Christmas, so I can at least get pics of the tank once it's done. Lol!

I'm kind of curious...How many crabs does everyone in this thread have, and how many are currently up? I believe I only have 2, maybe 3, out of 17 up. A few more are coming up at night, I think, since I've spied on them when I'm still awake at 3AM, but I only have 2 I'm seeing consistently. I consider them the smart ones, since they have first dibs on food and water ;)

My tank used to be like that... But I have a herd of hermits now! I have 10 altogether 2 are violas and 1 indo and the other 7 are PPs. During the day my indo and my viola Castiel are usually out and about. And since their addition to the tank my PPs are now more likely to come out during the day and early evening.

Lately is seems every crab in the tank is bent on destroying it. They never used to be so crazy but lately they are nuts! I swear they sit in the moss pit and slowly dump it out- silently laughing at me. I'm pretty sure they have substrate snowball fights. Otherwise I have no idea how there is always sand and ee alllllll over the glass! My little fake plants get ripped up and thrown everywhere. It looks like a hurricane went through my tank.

Pt here should be one pp down right now for a molt, however every one seems to be doing a shell swap. So I'm getting a little confused as to who's who. I think I'll take them all out to do a head count and clean the tank. Or as I like to call it- damage control.

Lol Ryry, it sounds like your exotics are just showing your pps how to do it BIG. They're like "hey! See that giant that put us in here and is constantly spying on us and messing with our stuff? Let's let her know who the real bosses are!!" Silly crabs. Love the idea of the substrate snowball fight. Seems very appropriate for the time :)

Lol, they are the smart ones! I have one fatty in particular. It seems like once 10pm hits, she doesn't leave the food bowl. I'm up late night and I've seen her sit there for 6-7 hours multiple times. Love her lol.

Anyways, 8 crabs. 4/8 are up but one has been hiding in the moss pit for the past week. Bob and Lil mama continue their little love story. They constantly follow each other around, eat meals together (when Bob can be bothered to move down to the food dish), and they sleep together in their own little private moss pit lol. Its pretty precious. Squirt is the only other crab up and about and she just changed shells a few days ago. It looks huge on her but she knows better than I do :) I'll have to post some pictures from my phone in a bit. I love posting pictures haha.
