Ark is becoming a streaker? Help!

Post by _PandorasBox_ » Tue Jun 16, 2015 6:52 pm

So, I came in to check on the Crabbies ( Ender was in the shell basket and I'm not really sure why, but I put her under the coconut hut and she's looking around ) , and Ark was halfway out of his shell, starting to show his bum. I scared him back inside and placed one of his favorite shells in front of him, but I'm worried that he'll start streaking. And I have a feeling he's close to molting ( Eating like a little Piggy, the salt water dish was empty when I went to refil it and I had filled it yesterday, and very slow / stiff movement even inside another new shell ) , but how can I get him to stay in it? I want to mother them properly as best as I can until I can get amazing tanks for them like most have ( Being poor is a pain, aye? ) , but I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.. I'm dechlorinanting water ( Salt from the petstore and fresh ) , providing various shells for both of them, feeding them fresh / frozen foods with various types, sand deep enough to dig in.. I don't really know why he was trying to get out of his shell ;-; I'm going to be keeping an eye on him in case he tries it again, but any tips / ideas as to why he wanted to try to streak before I caught him in the act and got him to stop? I threatened to dunk him and so far he hasn't tried it, but, still..

How much of his abdomen could you actually see? Some of my guys will sometimes just sit around and I can see the start of their abdomen, but I've never considered it to be a bad thing. Maybe he was just airing out his butt. Really, though, I wouldn't worry unless he actually leaves his shell. What's the temp in your tank? If he's in a shell that's too big for him, he may have been sitting awkwardly from that.

He may have also been cleaning or adjusting his shell. Or just relaxing. Like Meg said, I wouldn't worry unless he actually left his shell. Double check temps and humidity just in case though. :)

Considering that he listened after I threatened to dunk him if he did it again, he might just have been trying to relax or something. Either way, he's showing signs of an inpending molt, so, hopefully he doesn't do it again, it worries me. And how can I get him to stop pooping near the food bowl, where he's been staying lately. Anytime I spot clean not long before, he poops again, or little Ender does ( She's doing incredibly well for missing a leg, and is even more adorable because of that. She's got spunk )
I just hope he doesn't actually poop in the food bowls.. But him not moving much aside from wiggling around or eating from the more protien filled bowl is a sign of premolt, right? He looks as dark as usual, so I can't see for any ashiness, and I don't think he's been digging too too much, that's Ender's job at the moment.

Haha, there isn't a way to stop them from pooping near or in the food bowls, unfortunately! Mine use the supplement dish as their personal toilet. They also poop in the shell shop.

Yep, lethargy, increased appetite, etc. are good signs of an impending molt. Mine don't really get ashy before molting, and most don't dig excessively - they just disappear one night and I don't see them for a while.

Everytime I go over there, there's fresh poop xD At least he's eating though. He actually perked up more than usual today, and was streaking up the plastic by trying to climb it. Ender disappeared, haven't seen her all day.. Maybe she finally went down? Though she wasn't eating nearly as much as Ark has been ( Since he's been at the food bowls day and night from what I can tell, sometimes roaming around in a short break )
