Humidity when first get crabs

Post by jasonmom » Sat Jun 27, 2015 4:15 pm

Plan to get PPs in Myrtle Beach in August. I've read that I should start them out with humidity of 50% and take it up 5% every few days. I've also read that I should have my tank completely ready with 75% humidity before I get them. What is everyone's opinions?

Hi and welcome to HCA. Please check out our care guides. :) Your crabs need a minimum humidity of 75%. Period. Anything less causes damage to their gills if left for a long period of time. They are from tropical regions where the humidity is generally in the mid 80's year round. Most PP and other crabs do best at humidity in the low to mid 80's. Mine is usually anywhere between 80 and 90%.
