How long to destress?
How long to destress?
I got a new E about 3 weeks ago and he dug down immediately upon putting him in the tat.
Could he have been that ready to molt? Or is he destressing? And how long can they take to destress?

Re: How long to destress?
I would give him a couple more weeks. I didn't see my 3 hermit crabs for almost two months and then two of the came back up. After there were holes in the sand, I got a bad scent coming up and decided to dig. I found Tweedles dead under ground 2 weeks ago. I would consider waiting for some time.

Most likely molting.
Worst part of getting a new hermit, the two month wait to actually see them again! Hang in there, he'll be back up soon.

I'm going through this myself right now my crab Purl dung down over a week ago when I got her and I haven't seen her since everyone else has been up and active. Part of me wants to check that she's ok but I know I need to be patient since there are no bad smells coming from the tank.

Hang in there!
Figure 30-60 days down. It can be longer and you should never go digging to check, but my guys are almost always up after about a month.

The original crab this post was about ended up not making it.
But now it's happening again! Got a new crab about 1.5 months ago. Haven't seen him since the day I got him. I'm just waiting patiently lol.

Yeah. I hope the new one (an E named Toad) surfaces soon!
