Gel limbs?

Post by Krusty2015 » Sun Jan 17, 2016 11:49 am

I noticed one of pp's that's due for a molt is devolping yellowish tips at the ends of all her legs. She is still very active and she was climbing a half log with no problem a few nights ago.

They will form gel limbs where legs are broken and need to regenerate. Does your crab have injuries?

The exo on the leg tips will wear down over time and loose color, changing from the normal red to a yellow or white.

A gel limb is exactly that - jelly! Like a gummy worm, or a deshelled raw shrimp. You can't miss it, it's freaky as heck. The gel limb will form a few days to a few weeks before the crab molts. It happens when the entire limb has been dropped for whatever reason. I've never seen one form from a stump before.

No injuries as far as I can tell she has all legs and pinchers. Great to know it's normal then. Thanks!
